Dublin, and the rest of the country, is thankfully set to keep on moving over the coming days thanks to the efforts of all involved in the transport network.
Luas, Dart, Dublin Bus, Irish Rail and Bus Eireann services are all anticipating fully operational services as the snow and ice are set to return to Dublin in the lead up to Christmas.
According to the Evening Herald, Dublin Bus operated 95% of its route during the last bad spell - although a few black spots, such as canal bridges, caused problems. The Luas and DART were largely unaffected, but the condition of all but the main roads is set to pose problems again.
Luckily for the Malahide area, Fingal County Council is following the national strategy of ensuring that motorways, national primary roads, and main public transport networks remain open during the expected forthcoming adverse weather conditions.
People are being advised to only travel if necessary during the snow and ice; to use public transport; and to remember to visit elderly relations and neighbours who may have food and heating requirements.

Annual Malahide Chamber of Commerce Lunch
The annual Malahide Chamber of Commerce Lunch took place this year in the luxurious 4* Grand Hotel, Malahide.
Over 100 local business people turned up despite the difficult weather.
After an excellent lunch, the guest speaker, Packie Bonner, former Republic of Ireland soccer goalkeeper, gave a humorous and insightful speech. He spoke about the importance of having a clear vision, communicating it well and then following through. He cited many examples of how this has worked in his life and where he has seen it in many of the well known people he has worked with over the years.
Malahide Chamber of Commerce President Al Ryan said that these are lessons for us all and that together we need to continue to build a strong Chamber giving out a clear and positive message from Malahide.
Pictured at the lunch are Deirdre Rochford, Vice President Malahide Chamber of Commerce; Packie Bonner; and Al Ryan.

Malahide Community School Climbs Kilimanjaro
Martha McNamara, a teacher in Malahide Community School, four other teachers and two parents are hoping to bring 15 students to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in June 2011.
To make this happen, a serious commitment will be required from all involved: They must take part in a strict training and diet programme; keep their bloods monitored between now and June 2011; and climb a number of mountains in Ireland. All this in preparation for the 5,895 meter climb to the summit.
The project fits in with the school ethos of encouraging students to develop the values and life skills necessary for them to become responsible and adaptable adults, willing to make a contribution to their local community and society in general.
As well as having the potential to be of tremendous personal benefit for the students themselves in terms of character building, instilling values of respect and cooperation, the aim of this is to encourage the whole school, teachers, parents and the wider business community to row in behind the project.
In order to do the climb an element of fundraising is involved, partly for the trip itself. Their nominated charities are as follows:
1. The Ross Nugent Foundation: Ross was a pupil of the school who passed away in May 2010. His foundation raises funds for new equipment in the oncology department at Beaumont hospital.
2. The Laura Brennan Charitable Trust: Laura was a pupil of the school who passed away in 2008. Her foundation supports children up to the age of 18 suffering from life threatening or life limiting illnesses in Malahide and the surrounding area.
3. The Parkinson's Association: This association supports patients of Parkinson's disease and their families and is often a forgotten cause.
4. The Light of Massai: Irish woman Elaine Bannon has set up an education centre in Tanzania to educate the children of the Massai tribe. The group hope to visit the centre while they are there.
Their fundraising will take place both in the school and in the community of Malahide through a variety of events, some already organised such as non-uniform days, bag packing, race night and the Gibney's Wine Fair.
They are looking to you the local businesses for support and sponsorship in this endeavour.
They would be very grateful of any help but here are some options that you may want to consider:
1. €200 euro to sponsor a race at the Race Night in March 2011. Your business name and details would be on every race card.
2. Sponsorship of t-shirts.
3. Raffle prizes for the various events.
They will ensure that all who contribute to their project will have positive promotion and advertising.
They have sent a letter to all the well known media figures associated with Malahide seeking their support, in the hope that they will assist in some way and that it will attract media attention and in turn benefit sponsors.
They also hope to bring some fun and entertainment to the community and build positive momentum within the school and the larger Malahide area, while supporting very worthwhile charities along the way.
All support for this local endeavour in any form would be greatly appreciated.
Martha can be contacted through the school or at marthamcnamara@hotmail.com

RNLI Firewalk Challenge - Help raise funds for RNLI
On Thursday, 2nd December 2010, RNLI are hosting a Firewalk Challenge at their regional office in Airside Retail Park, Swords.
This is a fantastic event, perfect for a Sports & Social Club outing, or for a pre-Christmas team building event, or even just as the precursor to a great night out among friends. And it is all for a great cause.
They would love for as many people as possible to come along to the evening and participate in the event which should be a great way for the local community to come together and get to know each other - even corporate networking with a twist!
Each participant shall be literally walking over hot coals to raise money for the RNLI.
There is no direct cost for taking part in the event, but each individual participant is required to generate a minimum of €100 in sponsorship, which will go directly to the RNLI.
The RNLI is a registered charity that saves lives at sea and relies on voluntary donations for its income. Their lifeboat crews are all volunteers who often put themselves in great danger to help others. They aim to provide the crews with the best training and equipment possible - for which they very much require the help of the public.
The evening will commence with a motivational session. The motivational coaches will prep all participants before their big walk. The Firewalk will later be succeeded by a drinks reception for all participants.
They look forward to meeting with you and getting to know the local community.
For further information on the Firewalk Challenge, please visit www.rnli.ie/events; http://www.blazefirewalking.com or contact Aisling Ní Mhaoinis at aisling_nimhaoinis@rnli.org.uk

Holistic Health Seminars - Only €35
The forthcoming Tree of Life Saturday workshops are a great way to learn more about your Holistic Health. They offer great value for money at just €35 per workshop.
The Alexander Technique - An Introduction is a workshop exploring simple misconceptions of how we use our bodies. The Alexander Technique is a body of work created by Mr FM Alexander as he turned his attention to how his body worked when his voice failed him. What he explored practiced and taught were laws of nature applied practically and physically to living and moving. Applying his technique has allowed people to manage their bodies with choice and ease instead of habits of pain or tension. This workshop will explore how the body’s design has been compromised as we move and live in today’s world. We will identify how we can use human design more easily and offer practical tips to carry this forward into building awareness for your own body and life. It shall take place on Saturday, 13th November 2010 from 2pm until 5pm.
Aura-Soma - An Introduction is a workshop offering both a relaxing and an informative space for those seeking an understanding of the Aura-Soma system. Special emphasis is given to exploring your personal choice of colours. ReadAssist
Sheila Byrne from Malahide, Co. Dublin began cutting up cereal boxes when her daughter Jenny showed signs of difficulty reading when she started school 15 years ago.
But when she lost her job two years ago, she used her redundancy money and a start-up grant from Fingal Enterprise Board, and has now launched the ReadAssist.
What looks like nothing more than a six-inch ruler gives people with dyslexia the chance to focus just on the line of text they are trying to read, which can be a difficulty for those with the condition that affects an estimated 80,000 Irish people.
ReadAssist is the size of a 6" ruler. The beauty of it is that it will fit into the student's pencil case. It comes in three parts. The student just clicks the parts into place. There is also a pouch for ReadAssist. This is in order to keep it clean and safe in the student's pencil case.
There are four colours of acetates to choose from. These are the primary colours that are used by people with dyslexia, eliminating the effects of glare on the page. School books, newpapers, magazines etc. are printed black on white. People with certain reading difficulties have a problem with focusing on words printed black on white. Each student will have a preference to one of these colours. They can then put it into ReadAssist.
The grey frame around ReadAssist enables the student to focus ONLY on the line he/she is reading from. Some may feel they may only need to use the frame, without the acetate.
The cost of the ReadAssist for the month of October is EUR24.95 + EUR5 post & packaging. Cheques must be made payable to ReadRuler Enterprises Limited. Special offer as October is Dyslexia Month Worldwide. After October, the cost will be EUR29.95 + EUR5 post & packaging.

Government to Provide €450,000 Towards Malahide Cricket Ground Redevelopment
The second stage in the creation of a 12,000-capacity international standard cricket ground in Malahide got the green light yesterday with confirmation that the government shall provide €450,000 towards the cost of the redevelopment.
Malahide Cricket Club have already relaid the square at their ground at a cost of €70,000, 51% of which came from the club and the balance from Fingal County Council.
The government money is to be used on the development of a new outfield and grass banking that would accommodate the vast majority of the crowd, almost doubling the size of the ground to 17,000 square metres.
The club have been granted council-owned land on the Malahide Castle estate known as the Lady Acre, with the present boundary wall set to be removed to facilitate the ground development.
The club has completed a tender process that has still to be approved by the government before work can commence.
The ground may even be ready in time for Malahide to apply to host next summer’s One-Day International against England.
Cricket Ireland have worked with Malahide on the project and have committed to staging international matches at the ground once it is up and running.

Positive Ageing Week 2010
Positive Ageing Week 2010 runs from Friday, 24th September 2010 to Saturday, 2nd October 2010.
Positive Ageing Week is a festival which highlights the positive aspects of ageing and celebrates the contribution older people have made and continue to make to their communities.
The central aim of Positive Ageing Week is to dispel the many negative perceptions that surround ageing and to transform attitudes towards ageing and older people. We need to celebrate the fact that we are living longer, that ageing is not a burden but an opportunity.
Age Action coordinates Positive Ageing Week. Events and activities are organised by active retirement groups, local voluntary groups, nursing homes, libraries, commercial organisations and individual older people themselves.
This is the 8th year Age Action has marked UN International Day of Older Persons (1st October) and each year Positive Ageing Week has become bigger and better. Last year over 700-recorded events took place in 26 counties throughout the country and this year we are hoping for at least 850, including many from across the border.
In Malahide, a Bridge Game shall take place on Wednesday, 29th September 2010 from 2pm until 4:30pm in the Malahide Regional Bridge Club, Broomfield, Malahide. All grades are most welcome to attend. For more information in relation to this event, please contact Anne Doyle on 01 6905890.

O'Brien came up short in the second round of qualifying on a 6-07-6 (7/5) scoreline to Croatian Dino Marcan, and just a few hours later he flew to Manchester en route to the lower-tier I.T.F. Futures event in Wrexham.
The Malahide left-hander will team up today with his regular doubles partner, James Cluskey, in the pairs competition.
And the north Dublin duo, who are the top seeds, face unseeded British pair Miles Bugby and Marcus Willis in their opening contest.
