Malahide Credit Union - CU on Main Street

After a period of almost 40 years and much deliberation, Malahide & District Credit Union Limited is moving from Railway Avenue to their new premises on Main Street, Malahide, with a view to providing higher visibility, more efficient operations, enhancing services and growing membership.

We are now in a time when every community needs a strong Credit Union to help them through the economic recession. It has become apparent that members require more services and greater accessibility to services, and Malahide Credit Union believes the move will play a key role in driving this.

Manager of Malahide Credit Union, Vivienne Keavey, said: “Our view is that to continue the success that we have enjoyed in the past, we need to build on it for our future. We believe that there is strength in numbers and unity and as we move well into 2011, we are in no doubt as to the challenges that we face as a country. The banking system is still in difficulty and severe government cuts are being implemented. Malahide Credit Union is watching these national trends and aware of the steps that have to be taken to improve financial services and protect our members. We will continue to operate from our current offices at Railway Avenue until the official launch of the new premises later in the year and we look forward to seeing you on Main Street very soon!

Malahide & District Credit Union Ltd. was founded in 1969 and has successfully been serving the community ever since. Directed by a voluntary Board of Directors, elected by the members at the annual general meeting, the Credit Union offers a wide range of services.

Visit Malahide Credit Union today, either in person, or at www.malahidecu.ie. You can also contact the Credit Union at 01 845 1400 or info@malahidecu.ie.

The Green Village - Malahide 2020

The Green Village is a local voluntary organisation in Malahide that offers practical advice on:
- Energy Awareness
- Energy Efficiency
- Sustainable Living

And in the process:
- Build a cleaner & greener Malahide
- Save some money, by using less energy
- Make their small contribution to the environment

Over time, they will begin initiatives in other areas relating to sustainable living such as:
- Recycling
- Food
- Transport
- Water

They don’t supply goods and services directly, but see their role as facilitators to connect people with knowledge and an opportunity to make better, more informed decisions about energy and sustainable living.

If you would like to be part of a community that:
- Reduces our use of energy
- Believes in sustainable living
- Works together to make our small contribution to the environment

Please register for their updates on what’s happening and how to get involved!

Use of Water Buts in Combating Water Shortages

Ben Cosgrave from Torsion Dynamics Ltd. expresses his views in relation to a recent Malahide Chamber of Commerce Newsletter:

"In relation to your most recent Newsletter detailing the effects and costs of the ongoing water shortage issues, it would seem to me that an obvious arrangement is for businesses to fit Water Buts to their gutters and save the rainwater.

A simple pump can be used to pump this back to whatever tank is used for toilet flushing. Obviously this won't suit EVERY building, but since freshly treated and drinkable water is generally used for flushing, and therefore wasted, the above method could be employed in place, thereby saving the treated reservoir water.

Perhaps somebody more experienced than I could at least examine the possibility, perhaps they have. If it is feasible, anywhere, the costs to the premises should be offset against their rates / water charges as it is in the Councils best interest to endorse the scheme."

Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society - Summer 2011 Update

Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society have had a wonderful past year. They would like to thank everyone in Malahide for their continued support and would like to provide this small update about their success over the past 12 months.

Last year, they unfortunately had to abandon their Spring musical The Music Man due to lack of funding and membership. As a result, they used these months to fundraise with the help of the local community and aimed to recruit new members.

Last August, they performed Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa under the direction of Lynda O'Neill to packed audiences every night in Portmarnock Leisure Centre.

This was followed by their annual Winter Concert in November 2011 in the 4* Grand Hotel, Malahide.

In February 2011, they took to the stage once again in the Irish Premiere of the Australian version of The Pirates of Penzance, directed by Lynda O'Neill, musically directed by Graham Walsh and choreographed by Denise Donohue. This show was a huge and wonderful success. Staged in Scoil Iosa Hall, Malahide, they performed for five nights and recieved a full standing ovation every night. They recently received word that, as a result of their performance, Malahide Musical Society have been nominated for three awards at the annual A.I.M.S. (Association of Irish Musical Societies) award ceremony this month. They have successfully been nominated for Best Overall Show, Best Choral Performance and Dave Latham (who played the Pirate King) has been nominated for Best Comedic Performance. They are absolutely thrilled to receive any nomination but to receive three is just fantastic! There is a strong contingent heading to the awards ceremony in Killarney at the end of June 2011, and they have their fingers crossed that they might take home a prize or two...

Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society would like to thank the local community for their continued support. To all that came to see their show, help with advertising and support them with sponsorship, they are extremely grateful. Without this support, it would have been impossible to stage a production of this scale.

Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society is a long running society and they hope that their sponsors and audiences shall continue to support them with their next endeavours - details of which will be announced shortly.

Should you wish to join the Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society, please contact Marissa Magner at macmagner@hotmail.com. Men and women of all ages are most welcome.
