J.C.I. Fingal Career Directions Workshop

Thinking about changing career? Looking for a new career? Trying to work out what career direction is best for you?

Junior Chamber International Fingal are hosting a Career Directions Workshop on Saturday, 16th April 2011 from 10am until 5pm in the 4* Grand Hotel, Malahide.

The workshop is aimed at those about to graduate, recent graduates, recently unemployed professionals and anyone with an interest in taking charge of, or making a change, in their career.

This 1-day workshop shall provide participants with:
  • A comprehensive written description of their characteristics, values and goals;
  • Enable participants to complete an evaluation of their current role and potential future opportunities and create a written development plan;
  • Provide participants with the information, skills and tools to successfully manage their career development process in their current role and for the future.
The workshop will be facilitated by Alison Hand of Pathlight Training. Alison is an experienced consultant, facilitator and coach and has delivered training worldwide to industry leaders including Dell, IBM, Oracle, Elan, IONA Technologies, Irish Life and Permanent, Ericsson and Accenture. Alison was educated in UCD, the Coach Institute of Ireland and is an accredited MBTI and BarOn EQi practitioner.

Fingal Sailing School Easter and Summer Camps 2011

Fingal Sailing School have launched their 2011 Easter and Summer Sailing Camps.

They promise to be fun-filled excitement on the water with sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding!

The camps are suitable for children aged 8 - 17 years.

The Easter Camps shall take place from Monday, 18th April 2011 to Thursday, 21st April 2011 and from Tuesday, 26th April 2011 to Friday, 29th April 2011. They cost €149 per person and run from 9:30am until 4:30pm each day.

The Summer Camps shall take place on a weekly basis from 16th May 2011 until 29th August 2011. There is an Early Bird Special of €199 per person available for all those that book before Saturday, 30th April 2011.

Limited places are available, so early bookings are recommended.

Fingal Sailing School provide wetsuits, buoyancy aid and equipment. All you need to bring are trainers, a towel and swimwear.

Malahide Musical and Dramatic Society shall hold a fundraising table quiz on Friday, 1st April 2011 at 8pm in the Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre.

The Green Village

The Green Village is a Malahide based not for profit organisation made up of local volunteers. It aims to improve energy efficiencies and create a greater lifestyle awareness that will benefit the 14,600 residents of Malahide, the many local businesses, their children and their visitors.

For the members of the team, the personal satisfaction gained from volunteering in a worthwhile project is immense. They believe individuals can make a difference and in this current economic crisis individuals and communities taking action is crucial.

They are liaising with local community groups already established in Malahide working on similar goals. Where there are overlaps, they want to work with them to achieve these goals. This has the added benefit of involving more people in spreading the message of sustainability.

Now it's full steam ahead of their launch on Wednesday 23rd March 2011 at 8pm in 4* Grand Hotel, Malahide.

Third Age Foundation

Third Age is an organisation which promotes and celebrates the contribution of older people to Irish life. It has over 800 volunteers who give their time and expertise variously throughout Ireland as active listeners, tutors, advocates, befrienders, nutritionists - and more. This work impacts positively on thousands of people of all ages.

The Third Age Foundation, based in Summerhill County Meath, is an older people's organisation, run by older people for older people. The Third Age Foundation empowers and enables its members, presenting new ideas, opening up new possibilities.

Everyone is welcome at the Third Age Foundation. Members are not asked for a birth certificate, an address or a country of origin, but organise and take part in intergenerational and intercultural projects, partnership projects with a local long-stay residential care facility and a local Traveller group, lifelong learning, drama, I.T., health and fitness project, Failte Isteach Project... the list is endless.

The Third Age National Programmes include:
- Senior Help Line: A national confidential telephone listening service for older people is provided by older trained older volunteers. LoCall 1850 440 444, available all day and evening, 365 days a year;
- Failte Isteach: 400 older volunteers provide free conversational English class each week to over 1,000 students in 35 centres throughout Ireland;
- The Way We Were: An intergenerational project in which Third Age members create and host an exhibition of early artifacts to primary schools;
- Eating into the Future: Established in partnership with the H.S.E., in which trained older people pass on advice on menu planning, shopping and cooking to older people and their families;
- Men’s Shed: A befriending service in which older men are encouraged to become engaged in their local communities.

Fingal Sailing School - St. Patrick's Day 2011

There shall be an Open Day from 11am until 4pm on Thursday, 17th March 2011 at Fingal Sailing School.

All are welcome to attend - adults, children, families and friends! Come along and try a new activity or get practicing at something you love. Qualified I.S.A. Instructors shall be on hand all day long.

Two sessions of sailing shall take place; two sessions of windsurfing and three sessions of kayaking. Wetsuits are provided by Fingal Sailing School.

With places limited, early bookings should be made to avoid disappointment. There is a €5 cover charge per person, with B.B.Q., hot soup and hot drinks avilable throughout the day. There shall also be up to 50% off in the 'Wind and Wave Shop' on Thursday!

JCI Fingal present 'The Secrets of Successful Social Networking'

Owens and Flanigan Olympics London 2012

On Friday, 25th March 2011 there shall be a Golf Classic held in the Island Golf Club, Donabate, to fundraise for Olympic Campaigners Ger Owens and Scott Flanigan.

Ger is a double Olympian who won two races at the last Olympics in Beijing, whilst Scott will be the youngest sailor ever to compete in the Olympics for Ireland should they qualify.

The Golf Classic has already seen Ryder Cup players, Rugby and Soccer Internationals and several Olympians from a range of sports confirming their attendance. Ger and Scott would now appreciate the support of corporate and individual teams as they aim to field 40 teams on the day. To date the fundraising committee have successfully filled 23 team slots, there are 17 still available.

Enchiriadis Treis - Rescheduled Tribute Performance

Enchiriadis Treis, the Malahide Community Choir, is performing Handel's Messiah on Saturday, 2nd April 2011 at the Helix as a special tribute to their recently retired choral director Dr. Marion Doherty Hayes.

Marion has had a profound influence of music education and promotion not only in Malahide but all over the country. This concert has been rescheduled from December 2010 due to the poor weather conditions.

Previous ticket holders will still be able to use their tickets. There are also more tickets available at the box office so please come along and help them celebrate Marion's great contribution.

Malahide's Darragh O'Brien Appointed to Seanad

Outgoing Taoiseach Brian Cowen has announced that he is appointing Malahide's Darragh O’Brien, pictured to the right, to the Seanad.

O’Brien, who lost his TD seat in Dublin North in the general election, is Cowen’s nomination to replace Ciaran Cannon who has been elected as TD in Galway East.

O’Brien, 36, from Malahide, will sit in the Seanad until the elections in April 2011, at which time he can contest them or leave the seat. He had been selected as Fianna Fail’s spokesperson for Sport by Micheál Martin at the start of February 2011.
