There is a guard of honor planned for the Saturday afternoon and we would like for all supporters to come along and offer their congratulations to Crokes. March '09 Newsletter

As fellow business people in Malahide, the Chamber’s Committee realises the difficulties we are all experiencing at present. We have decided to prioritise the promotion of Malahide and your businesses for 2009. There is great experience and knowledge in the town and if you would like to either contribute an idea or indeed participate in the Special Committee established to organise this project, please email me at mailto:president@malahidechamber.ie?subject=Malahide%20Promotion%20Project or call 8660110. Individually we can do a lot but together we can do more.

News for Malahide Business on Fingal Council Council program for 2009

The Chamber of Commerce attended the new Liaison Committee to represent the interests of local business to our County Council. Detailed Minutes of the meeting are now available but the main points for us are set out below.

Among the highlights for Business are:

1. Local Elections, which are due to be held on 5/6/09, will combine the existing Malahide and Howth Electoral Areas, which currently comprise of 4 representatives from the Malahide Ward and 3 representative from the Howth ward. These will merge to become one Electoral Area comprising of 5 representatives.

2. an Efficiency Unit has been established within the Council to achieve efficiencies in an effort to maintain services

3. The Bridgefield car park could be examined with a view to introducing Pay and Display there. This would be of benefit to commuters but may have an impact on those using the park for recreation.

4. There are no immediate proposals to develop a Traffic Management Plan for the village.

5. There are no immediate proposals for the provision of a Shuttle Bus

6. The second stage of the Urban Centre Strategy process for Malahide will involve the appointment of appropriate consultants to assist the Planning Authority in the preparation of the Strategy. Malahide Urban Centre Strategy is included in our programme of works for 2009 and it is the intention of the Howth / Malahide Team (forward planning section) to commence the appointment process for the Urban Centre Strategy in late summer.

7. The Malahide Drainage Scheme which covers the full Malahide catchment is at a very early stage. No works will be carried out in 2009 in the Malahide area. When work does start it is expected to be completed by 2013.

8. A preliminary draft of the Broomfield Local Area Plan is currently being prepared by the Planning Department

9. Beach Cleaning, due to the reduction in overtime the beach cleaning programme previously undertaken will not now proceed. However, it was noted that the Council would arrange to collect litter which had been voluntarily collected on the Beach.
